What Type String Do I Use for String Art

String painting is such a fun and Easy way to create beautiful artwork! It's amazing to meet the beautiful designs you can create with a simple piece of string or yarn. This kid-friendly art technique uses liquid watercolours and regular printer newspaper.

String Painting

Cord painting is such a great art idea for both adults and kids. You don't need any special skills or equipment and it's really piece of cake to create really cool looking paintings!

All iii of my kids really enjoyed this project. My kids LOVED seeing the art that their string designs made. And and so did I!

I've included lots of photos in the mail below then you tin can run across what worked for the states… and what sort of flopped!

We used printer newspaper in the photos you'll come across in this post. If you want to turn your creations into greeting cards, or art that will last a little longer so I recommend using a stronger paper similar cardstock or watercolour paper.

For the pigment, we used liquid watercolors from Amazon (I'll include the link below). You tin can also use ink or acrylic pigment to make these paintings. Acrylic is a slightly different technique that I'll show you over in this cord paint art post.

The full printable instructions are at the end of this postal service. Here's a list of affiliate links to products on Amazon that are similar to the supplies we used to brand this artwork:

• White printer paper (or card stock or watercolor paper)
• Acrylic yarn (or cotton fiber yarn)
• Liquid watercolor paint (or ink)

We used regular acrylic yarn for all the paintings you lot'll run across below. Nosotros also tried cotton yarn and it worked really well too.

Cutting a piece of yarn that's near 18 to 24 inches long. The shorter your piece of yarn is, the easier it is to piece of work with.

Optional:I found the yarn absorbed the watercolor paint ameliorate when it was soaked in water commencement. It doesn't need to soak for long. A couple minutes while you're preparing everything else will do the trick.

Pull the String Out

To make your string painting expect more like flowers, cross the string over itself into a loop or ii.

This was my FAVOURITE method that made the prettiest paintings for us. Follow the same steps as higher up, merely dip the same piece of yarn into iii unlike colours.

Use the stir sticks to pull the yarn into each colour. Make sure the yarn is completely covered without any gaps.

They turned out SO PRETTY!

Fail! Hither's what DIDN'T Work for us:

Don't use the yarn or string more one time. When the yarn is super saturated, you don't get those cool looking lines coming downwards from the string. Just a solid block of color.

Still pretty, so not a complete fail. Meet the photograph below.

Neglect! LOL I'thousand embarrassed to even show you this next one.

I KNOW it'southward possible to layer multiple string paintings on top of each other. But it just didn't piece of work for us.

If you decide to layer different cord designs onto your artwork here's my tips so yours plow out better than mine:

1. Make sure the first painting is completely dry before y'all add together another string design on top.
2. Use thicker paper like cardstock or watercolour newspaper so the paper doesn't wrinkle as much.

String Painting using Liquid Watercolors or Ink

String painting is a fun and Piece of cake style to create beautiful artwork! A cracking technique for both adults and kids!

Active Time 10 mins

Full Time 10 mins

Yield: one painting

• Scissors

• Tissue box

• Modest bowls

• printer paper (white)
• yarn (cotton fiber or acrylic)
• liquid watercolor paint (any colour)
• wooden stir stick (or popsicle stick, or fork)

• Cut a piece of yarn that'due south about xviii to 24 inches long. The shorter the yarn, the easier information technology will be to piece of work with.

• Soak the piece of yarn in water for a few minutes to help the paint absorb in to the string.

• Pour the watercolor paint into a small bowl. It should have at least 1/4 inch of paint in the lesser. To make lighter colors, add together a bit of water to the paint to dilute it.

• Place the yarn into the basin of paint. Utilize a fork or a popsicle stick to completely saturate the yarn with the paint. Exit about four inches of clean yarn outside the bowl so you tin selection information technology upwards later.
